TORONTO, ONTARIO – June 12, 2008 – The Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) today announced a new executive appointment and a few senior staff changes, designed to enhance its ability to provide outstanding service to its clients and their guests. They include:
John Houghton promoted to the position of Executive Vice President. In this newly created role, John will continue his strategic leadership of the Sales & Marketing team as well as overseeing the Event Coordination, and Event Services departments. His key focus will be enhanced communication and coordination of client needs, from time of sale through event execution.
John brings significant operational strength to this task. Prior to taking on the Sales & Marketing role at the MTCC in 1997, John held senior management positions with the Canadian National Sportsmen’s Shows, Livingston Event Logistics and AVW-Telav.
“John’s understanding of our clients’ needs, event and business operations, combined with his significant involvement in the industries we serve, make him ideally suited to take on these new challenges,” said MTCC President and CEO Barry Smith. “I am delighted to promote him into this crucial executive role.”
Other senior changes announced by the MTCC at the same time were:
David Chisholm’s role as Director of Sales will be expanded. David originally joined the MTCC’s Sales team as a Sales Manager for the Canadian Trade & Consumer Show markets in 2002 and was promoted to Director of Sales in 2005. In light of John’s expanded operational commitments, David will now take on a greater and even more visible role in guiding MTCC’s sales efforts across all markets.
Sharon Dayal’s role as Director of Event Coordination will be expanded. With the shift of Event Coordination under John’s portfolio, Sharon will oversee both the Event Coordination and Exhibitor Services departments.
“I believe that these structural changes to our organization will help MTCC develop the strong leadership required for our future growth and success, and help us better serve our customers in an increasingly competitive market,” said John Houghton of his appointment and the related organizational changes.
