Global Spine Experts to present latest scientific developments at NASS’ 23rd Annual Meeting at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre October 14-18

TORONTO, ONTARIO – October 9, 2008 – More than 2,600 spinal experts from around the world will convene in Toronto next week when the North American Spine Society (NASS) hosts its 23rd Annual Meeting October 14-18, 2008 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC).

Topics to be discussed will cover a variety of subjects, including The Socioeconomic Sport of Spine Care, Lessons Learned from Disc Arthroplasty, Applying Evidence-based Medicine Into Your Practice and Perioperative Management of Spine Surgery.  Tim Sanders, author of the New York Times bestseller The Likeability Factor: How to Boost Your L-Factor and Achieve the Life of Your Dreams, will give the Keynote Address.

“The North American Spine Society 23rd Annual Meeting offers the highest level of education available for health care professionals who focus on the spine.  As our flagship event, the society is thrilled to have its meeting in Toronto this year,” said Tom Faciszewski, MD, NASS President.

NASS members are MDs, DOs and PhDs in 24 spine-related specialties, including orthopedics, neurosurgery, physiatry, pain management and other disciplines. Nurse practitioners, physician assistants, chiropractors, physical therapists, practice administrators and other allied health care professionals involved in spine care also are part of the NASS membership.

“We are very pleased to be hosting this group of spine professionals.  Spine health is an important factor in overall good health, and issues with the spine can lead to very significant and debilitating health problems.  A lot of important new scientific findings will be shared at this event, and we wish them a successful and productive meeting!” said Barry Smith, President and CEO of the MTCC.

“We anticipate that this major convention will produce significant revenue for Toronto’s hotels, restaurants, shops and entertainment venues.  We estimate the overall economic impact of the NASS gathering to be in the range of $5.6 million in direct spending,” he added.
