TORONTO, ONTARIO – October 21, 2008 – More than 4,000 experts from across Canada will convene in Toronto next week when the ninth annual Canadian Cardiovascular Congress (CCC) meets October 25-29, 2008 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC).
Co-hosted by the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of (HSFC), Congress is Canada's largest scientific conference and the largest gathering of cardiovascular and allied health professionals in Canada.
“HSFC and CCS are delighted to host the premier annual event for Canada’s cardiovascular community in Toronto this year,” said Dr. Malcolm Arnold, CCC annual meeting chair.
This event brings together the individuals who work across the spectrum of cardiovascular health -- from research to patient care -- and stimulates interaction within the cardiovascular community. It is a forum to showcase the best research and to promote learning. The findings of close to 900 research studies will be presented.
Attendees will represent 20 different organizations. Virtually all of Canada’s heart health researchers and professionals (surgeons, pediatric specialists, cardiologists, nurses, rehab professionals, and others) will be there to learn about the latest science and cutting edge research, and take it back to their patients.
Congress 2008 shines the spotlight on women and heart disease, with a special lecture, a workshop, and featured study on the issue. The HSFC’s Heart Truth campaign, which raises awareness of women’s risk of heart disease and stroke is featured prominently during Congress (see thehearttruth.ca for more details about this campaign).
“We are very pleased to be hosting this group of cardiovascular professionals. Cardiovascular health is critical to our overall health, and cardiovascular disease can lead to very significant and debilitating health problems. We wish them a successful and productive meeting” said Barry Smith, President and CEO of the MTCC.
“We anticipate that this major convention will produce significant revenue for Toronto’s hotels, restaurants, shops and entertainment venues. We estimate the overall economic impact of this year’s Congress to be $3.36 million in direct spending,” he added.
