Metro Toronto Convention Centre to Welcome World’s Largest Gathering of Endocrinologists

TORONTO, ONTARIO, May 29, 2007 – The Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) will play host to more than 6,000 leading researchers and physician from over 70 countries when it welcomes the world’s largest gathering of endocrinologists to The Endocrine Society’s Annual Meeting here in early June.

Known as “ENDO,” this annual meeting enables practitioners to learn the latest advances in endocrine research and clinical care through research presentations made by the thought leaders in the field. Scientists, clinical scientists and physicians-in-practice all share their latest research findings at ENDO.  Indeed, the 2007 scientific program, presented by over 350 speakers, includes 16 plenary lectures, 77 symposia, and 180 Meet-the-Professor sessions.  In addition, there will be 100 oral sessions and over 2,000 poster presentations.

Topics to be covered will include the full range of endocrinology, from basic research to translational research to clinical practice, including the latest in diabetes research, thyroid diseases, growth hormone deficiency, obesity, and female reproduction.  ENDO is known for scientific excellence in covering the breadth of endocrinology, providing attendees with a wealth of knowledge as well as extensive networking opportunities to meet with the brightest and best in the profession today.

The convention will run from June 2-5, 2007 and the MTCC anticipates this major event will produce significant revenue for Toronto’s hotels, restaurants, shops and entertainment venues, with an overall economic impact of approximately $9.6 million in direct spending.

“From my earliest days as an ENDO attendee, the meeting has always impressed me with the unique melding of basic science, clinical science, and clinical practice. The opportunities for networking and collaborating with some of the best endocrinologists in the world are what make ENDO so unique. ENDO 07 is an opportunity not to be missed.  Add in glorious Toronto – one of the most diverse, modern, and accessible cities in the world – and we have a formula for the best ENDO yet!” said William F. Young, Jr., MD, MSc, AMSC Chair, ENDO 2007.

“We are thrilled to be hosting this large group of endocrinology specialists from around the world at the MTCC,” added Barry Smith, the MTCC’s CEO.   “Endocrine diseases affect millions of people of all ages in Canada and many more in other countries, and the sooner we can find a way to treat and even prevent these life altering diseases the better for everyone,” he said.
