TORONTO, ONTARIO, Oct. 1, 2007 – The Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) will welcome more than 5,000 of the top leaders and scientists from the international coatings industry this week when it plays host to the industry’s top annual event, ICE 2007.
Sponsored by the Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology (FSCT), the convention will run from October 3- 5, 2007. The MTCC anticipates this major convention will produce significant revenue for Toronto’s hotels, restaurants, shops and entertainment venues, with an overall economic impact of approximately $10.76 million in direct spending.
Focusing on the theme “Clean—Lean—Green,” ICE 2007 will combine a variety of educational programs with the largest North American exhibition of raw materials, equipment, and services for the coatings manufacturing industry. In attendance will be top industry experts, bench chemists, Lab managers, and Research and Development directors from Coating manufacturers worldwide. Most have advanced degrees in chemistry.
Among the key program offerings will be FutureCoat, a major technical conference which will examine the most innovative methodologies and applications shaping the future of the coatings industry. This intense program will feature highly focused tracks, with sessions ranging from green chemistry, formulation, pigments, waterborne, clearcoats, and pre-treatments.
General interest sessions will examine such topics as corrosion, nanotechnology, weathering, and instrumentation. The Keynote address, entitled “Green Chemistry and Entropic Control in Coatings Materials and Processes”, will be presented by John C. Warner, of Warner Babcock Institute.
ICE 2007 will also include this year’s International Coatings Expo. Recognized worldwide, the Expo is expected to attract coatings professionals from over 63 countries. Featured are the products and services used in the development, manufacturing, testing, and application of protective and decorative paints, coatings, inks, adhesives, and construction chemicals.
Approximately 170 leading industry suppliers will be exhibiting. Their sales and marketing staffs will display a wide variety of raw materials, production equipment, containers, laboratory apparatus, software, testing devices, and services furnished to the coatings and allied industries.
Hands-on demonstrations of the wide variety of new environmentally friendly products and technologies the coatings industry has to offer are expected to be of special interest to attendees.
“We are extremely excited to be holding our conference in Toronto this year”, said Joseph Pontoski, Executive Director for the FSCT. “Our theme of ‘Clean-Lean-Green’ fits right in with the City’s commitment to the health of the Global Environment. Few cities are able to offer such a unique combination of recreation, entertainment and cultural diversity. We are certain that our international audience will have a great experience.”
“We are honoured to be welcoming the FSCT and the leaders of the world’s coatings industry to Toronto and to the MTCC,” added Barry Smith, the Centre’s CEO. “ICE 2007 is considered the premier event of the year by industry insiders, and we know they will have a fabulous and memorable experience here.”
