The MTCC and Toronto have won the competition to host a major Shriners convention that will bring well over $31 million in direct spending to the city.
The Shriners 136th Imperial Council Session will convene here from June 25 to July 9, 2010.
Approximately 20,000 Shriners and their families from across North America and around the world will attend this important international event, resulting in bookings of more than 24,000 hotel room nights.
"The competition from across the continent was fierce and we pursued this opportunity aggressively over a period of several months. We're really delighted to have been selected as the winning bidders," said Barry Smith, the MTCC's CEO. The MTCC partnered with the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Recreation, Tourism Toronto, Greater Toronto Hotels and the City of Toronto on this proposal.
