World’s Largest Education Research Convention Returns to Toronto 40 Years Later

The Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) will welcome 14,000 of the brightest minds in educational research April 5-9 during the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting. AERA was first held in Toronto in 1978, which marked the first time the annual meeting was ever hosted outside of the United States.

Educational research is the scientific study of learning processes for the purpose of improving education. The 2019 Annual Meeting will focus on “Leveraging Education Research in a ‘Post-Truth’ Era”. Attendees will explore how educational research can be used to lessen inequality and increase educational opportunities in a so-called “post-truth” political era.

AERA’s Annual Meeting will be the first of nine major citywide conventions from the U.S. to take place at the MTCC in 2019. Toronto was recently recognized by a Watkins research report as a top-ranked meeting destination in North America and continues to be a popular choice for meetings coming from the U.S.

“We are proud to welcome back AERA’s Annual Meeting to Toronto and to the MTCC”, said Lorenz Hassenstein, President and CEO of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. “Toronto is home to a world-class hub of educational institutions and we look forward to hosting delegates who stand for improving education and access to education as well.”

“We are incredibly pleased to be returning to Canada, which has become a second home for the AERA Annual Meeting,” said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. “Toronto is a major international destination and our members are enthusiastic about coming together there for five days of ideas, engagement, and networking. With more than 14,000 attendees expected, we anticipate a great deal of energy and excitement.”

“Toronto is Canada’s centre of learning, discovery and knowledge; home to nine colleges and universities, including the University of Toronto,” said Tara Gordon, Vice-President, Business Events at Tourism Toronto. “AERA once again choosing the city as the destination for its annual meeting speaks to Toronto’s international standing as a leader in education  that includes 1,400 educational establishments and businesses, and more than 100,000 employees.”

Members of the media are invited to register to attend the AERA 2019 Annual Meeting in Toronto, Canada, April 5-9, for five days of cutting edge research, ideas, and engagement. https://bit.ly/2UTMnUx
